Looking back on SXSW

by Webmaster, 28.03.2012

Eight Norwegian acts performed at SXSW this year. Check out pictures and comments from the event.

Eight Norwegian acts performed at SXSW this year; Bloody Beach, Marit Larsen, Philco Fiction, Shining, Audrey Horne, Spirits of The Dead, Team Me and Razika. Together with these fine Norwegian acts, a large delegation of music professionals including manager, labels, digital aggregators, festivals and more joined the festival/conference in Austin, Texas.

Singer, guitarist and saxophone player Jørgen Munkeby from Shining, shares his experience at SXSW:

- Feeling the anticipation of the packed room of US fans right before we entered the stage, was a very good feeling. It was even better seeing their faces light up when it all hit them in the chest. In this world of crowded emails and inflated Facebook friend counts, meeting people face to face seems to me like the most efficient way to go. Do you really want to work with someone without first knowing if they can tie their shoe laces? We had our scheduled meetings lined up before we left Norway, but the whole trip to SXSW proved to be even more productive than we had planned. Well worth the time, money and effort for us this time!

Shining performed at the FIM/Metal Hammer showcase, which was a great success according to Crispin Parry of British Underground.

- The FIM/Metal Hammer showcase at SXSW was one of the highlights of the festival. Both The Shining and Audrey Horne played fantastic sets to a packed crowd and gained many new international fans.

Packed venue

Another music professional at SXSW experiencing Norwegian act was Swedish Carolina Eriksson from Saturday Enterprise/Kobalt Music:

- I was so happy when I learned that Team Me was playing at SXSW, as they are one of my favorite Nordic bands at the moment. Unfortunately (for me but not for the band) the venue was packed before Team Me started playing, but I didn’t give up and got in after waiting for about 30 minutes to catch the last song witch was really rocking! A nice bonus was that with me in the line waiting to get in were representatives from a French and a Dutch festival, a Canadian management, an American music blogger and an American PR-company, all as excited as me to get in, she says.

Team Me manager Thomas Ryjord was very happy with the SXSW showcases.

- We had a great experience with Team Me at SXSW. Several of our showcases were so packed with people that everyone could not fit in, and we got to introduce the band for the U.S marked, which already has showed a lot of interest in Team Me and their music.

Filter party

Along with great showcases and seminars, Music Export Norway and the Øya Festival arranged a day party together with Filter Magazine’s Showdown at Cedar Street. The Norwegian acts performing at the Filter party were Philco Fiction, Team Me and Razika.

- I'm very pleased to have such wonderful partners as Øya Festival and Music Export Norway.  Together, they brought A-grade bands to our party at SXSW and made it a huge success!, says Mike Bell, director of international relations at Filter Creative Group.
